Can you tell? Clearly excited :) |
Chances are, if you've been following me for awhile, you've heard me complain about finances, roommates, hating my job(s), or getting lost...or you know, the other perils of the real world. Which got me thinking....life is rough! But free stuff rocks!
So here to celebrate passing 100 followers is a contest.
The Rules:
You have one sentence. Technically it can be a run on if you're interested (who likes punctuation anyway?). But that one sentence needs to answer this question:
When and why were/are you stressed?
Your answer can be fiction, "In December, I was being chased through the desert by a lion pride for stealing the cub that resembled Simba!" Your answer can be non fiction, "Today Baxter stepped on my foot, scraped it all to heck, and then chased the neighbor's dog around the complex and refused to listen." Your answer can be poetry, "It was July the first time I heard you lie."
Seems simple, right? Only a four word question? You're probably thinking I've fallen off my air mattress and smashed my face into the wall...again. But really, you can do a lot with that question.
For realz, I sleep on an air mattress. Classy, huh? |

One sentence. One to three winners, depending how generous (or lazy) I'm feeling. Winners will be announced Friday, July 27, 2012.
Entries will be accepted from today (Monday, July 23, 2012) til midnight of Thursday, July 26, 2012. (Just leave the sentence in the comments)
The Prize(s):
As previously stated, I'm pretty broke, but I'm just so happy to have followers, I feel like I should maybe pay to keep you guys here, no? So there are a couple of options:
1) $10 Amazon OR Barnes and Nobel Gift Card.
2) Query Critique from me.
or
3) First five pages critique.
The Fine Print:
I am currently an un-represented author, so you may think my advice is full of crap. If that's the case, I'd encourage you to pick the $10 gift card. But I do and have attended lots of conferences. I have a fair bit of knowledge in the querying game, as well as the writing game. If you're one of those people who just wants an extra pair of eyes, I'd suggest going with either of the critiques, but it's up to you.
When you're broke, this may be your main source of caloric intake... (It's definitely mine) |
Happy Monday!
I am rarely stressed but sometimes I get slightly overwhelmed which is currently the case because I've got a number of pretty cool things happening with a few different manuscripts so I'm trying to throw all the balls up in the air and not have them hit me on the head.
ReplyDeleteHow's that for a run on sentence? haha
Congrats on the followers!!!
Thanks! And I love run on sentences! Baxter and I have registered your entry :) I also love the "Throw all the balls up in the air and not have them hit me on the head"
DeleteCongrats on 100 followers! That is too awesome! As far as stress is concerned, I'll let my toddlers loose in your apartment for an hour and then you can know the meaning of stress :)
ReplyDeleteI feel like if you let the kiddos free in my apartment, they wouldn't return. I'm amazed Baxter is alive on a daily basis. :)
DeleteHmmm...
ReplyDeleteThere was a time when I had a moving deadline and the apartment complex tried to bill me for damages caused by a leak from the apartment above us.
However, if I win, I'd rather sort of combine the prizes. Instead of money, you could just buy a copy of my book, and, instead of a critique, you could do a review of it. I'm always after reviews, so that sounds like a good compromise to me. If you approve, of course.
That sounds fair! (As long as book/shipping is under $10). Also, I love your sentence! Lol. Sounds a lot like my life
DeleteI was actually thinking of the Kindle version, which is $2.99. With the free Kindle app, it's a pretty good deal :)
DeleteI thought you would appreciate that sentence. Still dealing with that issue, too, but I'm not paying for damages that came from an exterior water source.
I don't have an ereader :(. Yea, I'm dealing with neighbor issues today. Had to call the landlord, less than ideal. I wish people weren't crazy.
DeleteI don't have an e-reader, either. But there is a free Kindle app you can download for your PC or laptop. I do all of my e-reading through that. I don't particularly like having to sit at my computer to read, but I do get to read some things that I wouldn't normally be able to.
DeleteOhhh!! Good to know! And $2.99 is much cheaper than $10 :)
DeleteCongrats on 100 followers! As far as stress goes... I'm incredibly stressed out at the moment because I'm moving to Russia in five weeks for our first Foreign Services post, and I'm trying to learn Russian, query my novel, and take care of my crazy two-year-old, all while getting organized for the move! :D
ReplyDeleteHoly wow! Where in Russia are you headed? Do you currently live in the states? You are definitely stressed! Sending positive and helpful vibes!
DeleteYekaterinburg, Russia (ie middle of nowhere). I live outside of DC right now!
DeleteWow! WOW! That is quite the move! Best of luck!
DeleteAh, why am I stressed? How many things can I fit in one sentence? ;)
ReplyDeleteHow about I put my blog profile as why I'm stressed--Trying to balance a family, a teaching job, writing, and my sanity.
That's why I'm stressed :)
I prefer chicken Top Ramon, but beef cup o' noodles, can't do the opposite even though they're basically the same thing :)
I appreciate that the sanity comes last :) I understand about not being able to go opposite. I can only eat specific things/flavors, too :)
DeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteI am stressed, worrying about my ms and if I'm gonna have problems pushing a YA with an 18 year old college freshman.
I am also stressed because my beta reader is super fast and I feel like a loser cause I haven't hardly sent her hardly anything. ;) I will be speeding up though.
Thanks!
DeleteI'd worry about the story first, then the age. You can always change ages...not too hard. (Lots of high school kids take college courses, if that helps? I don't know!)
With the beta...ahem...I wouldn't worry about it. I feel like she's a single gal, with no kids, or friends...and has a day off :)
Thanks.
DeleteThat was my one idea, high school student taking college courses. But I'd have a few things to work out. May ask your opinion at the end.
Here's my sentence.
ReplyDeleteMy wife is clearly excited that I'm writing a new book, but then she stands behind me at night with her arms crossed wanting me to get off the computer! *sigh*
Congrats on 100! :)
Hahaha. That is awesome :)
DeleteThanks!
Congratulations on 100 followers! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm stressed because my book is stuck in revisions, I work a crappy job serving coffee to ungrateful people that don't even say hi, and I really really want a kitten but my roommate was possibly a crazy person in another life or just this life.
The air mattress actually looks quite comfortable. :)
Tee he he. I saw the 200 :) (Someday, someday! We will celebrate if I hit 200!)
DeleteI work a crappy job, too. I'm sorry you have crappy customers :(
The air mattress does rock..some nights. But I do fall off it pretty regularly. :)
Congrats! Today I am stressed because there was a home invasion in my neighborhood and it's a little too close to home for my taste and that is not fiction, unfortunately!
ReplyDeleteWhat does home invasion mean? Like, someone broke in and stole stuff? Either way, I hate when things happen near my place...always freaks me out
DeleteI'm constantly stressed because I'm at home alone all day with a very active two month old while trying to write a novel, answer revision requests for a novella, and work a day job (from home with a baby on my hip).
ReplyDeleteWow! A multi-tasker! Very impressive!
