The Booker Award

Woohoo!
Awhile ago, my old friend gave me a blog award...and so I'm finally getting the chance to pass it on. It’s the Booker Award. The rules after accepting this award are as follows:
#1, thank the person who nominated you.
#2, name your five favorite books.
#3, post the award icon on your blog.
#4, nominate five bloggers who have literary and book-centered blogs.

Game on.

1. My friend, Anna who is a book blogger!
2. Five favorite books? Well, since 2012 is ending, how about five favorite books that I read in 2012? Does that sound okay?
Totally read the Tribute Guide, too!

3. Done up there at the top....

4. And passing this business along:

~Ms. Suzi because she's an awesome Beta, and person :)
~Ms. T Drecker because she leaves wonderful comments :)
~Ms. J.A. because she's a wonderful blogger, had a baby in 2012, and is generally a rockstar
~Ms. Dani, who I discovered this year. Awesome blogger, too!
~Ms. Emily R King, because she also is a rockstar and leaves thoughtful comments.

Alright, thanks for stopping by! Hope your holidays are/were fabulous!

The Next Big Thing

I'd like to thank Krista McLaughlin for tagging me in this. First of all, because these meme things are always fun, and secondly, because well...I was running out of things to blog about (while still trying to find a damn picture of me, or my sister, with Harry Potter.)

Just to warn you guys, I think next week may be a rather intense week where I'm going to tackle a lot of subjects that working on my memoir (newly updated!) has brought up. Brace yourselves. I'm already expecting to lose followers. Maybe for those of you who stick around, I'll try to figure out another contest, or something. (This is a HUGE maybe, I'm super broke right now.)

Anyways, as stated, Krista tagged me in the Next Big Thing...so here I go!

What is the working title of your book?
Which one? There's My Sister's Memories, After Elizabeth, and The Right to Live: A Christian Girl's Struggle through Abortion, Losing Her Mind, and Recovery.

Where did the idea come from?
My Sister's Memories came when I was moving to Maine after North Carolina. I have a lot of issues with my memory, and was crossing a bridge and thought, "What if you saw everyone you love die?"
After Elizabeth was because I was still recovering from everything that caused me to move, and I really wanted to kill someone...so...I do it fictitiously
The Right to Live...well...came from my life, as it's my memoir :/
What genre does your book fall under?
Two Contemporary Young Adults, and one Memoir (with a side of french fries, please :) )

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie?
I actually hate this question. I hate when the books have the actors on the front cover before I read the book because then I just see the actor, even if the writer tells me the hair was brown, and the actor is blond. Hollywood does their job (casting, auditions, etc), I do my job and let you pick.

What is the one sentence synopsis of your book?
MSM: On her 18th birthday, Sarah's parents are killed in a car accident, leaving Sarah to become guardian of her younger, and now amnesiac sister.

AE: In the aftermath of her best friend's suicide, Claire turns to cigarettes, neon hair, and anger, rather than dealing with her feelings...until Andrew moves in across the street.

TRTL: Um, the little "A Christian Girl's Struggle.." pretty much sums this one up :)
Will your books be self-published or represented by an agency?
Agency. I don't care how long it takes. I wanna see my effin book in a Barnes and Noble, and get banned from libraries and schools.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
It usually takes me three to four weeks to do the first draft. There's a lot of coffee, energy drinks, and alcohol usually involved.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?
The need to kill off characters and use writing as therapy really pushed me to write the stories. Is that healthy?

What else about your book would pique the reader's interests?
There are always cute boys in my stories. Even in my memoirs :)

Oh, and um...I'm supposed to pass this on. So...Here we go:

1) One of my lovely Beta Readers for After Elizabeth, Ms. Suzi over at Literary Engineer.

2) A woman I met during one of the blog hops and on Twitter, who seems like she has her stuff together, Ms. Rachel Frost over at The Story of Her Life

3) A wonderful blog follower who always has excellent comments, Ms. Elizabeth Seckman at Use Your Words

4) Another great follower with great comments, Ms. Emily R King over at Get Busy Writing.

5) And because this guy also rocks with comments, and the precessors were females and I feel like we gotta try to balance this out, Mr. Andrew Leon over at StrangePegs

Guest Post

As much as I'd love to chat your faces off (that sounds wrong), I'm not here today.

Help, help. I don't know where I am!

I'm over at J.A. Bennett's, because she just had a lil baby and her blog followers are here to keep her afloat while she adjusts to the new baby.

Congrats J.A.!

Contest/Giveaway

With the assistance of blog hops, twitter, and other web-based wonders, The Submission Process has finally hit over 100 followers, and I can not express how much this means to me!

Can you tell? Clearly excited :)

Chances are, if you've been following me for awhile, you've heard me complain about finances, roommates, hating my job(s), or getting lost...or you know, the other perils of the real world. Which got me thinking....life is rough! But free stuff rocks!

So here to celebrate passing 100 followers is a contest.

The Rules:

You have one sentence. Technically it can be a run on if you're interested (who likes punctuation anyway?). But that one sentence needs to answer this question:

When and why were/are you stressed?

Seems simple, right? Only a four word question? You're probably thinking I've fallen off my air mattress and smashed my face into the wall...again. But really, you can do a lot with that question.

For realz, I sleep on an air mattress. Classy, huh?

Your answer can be fiction, "In December, I was being chased through the desert by a lion pride for stealing the cub that resembled Simba!" Your answer can be non fiction, "Today Baxter stepped on my foot, scraped it all to heck, and then chased the neighbor's dog around the complex and refused to listen." Your answer can be poetry, "It was July the first time I heard you lie."

One sentence. One to three winners, depending how generous (or lazy) I'm feeling. Winners will be announced Friday, July 27, 2012.

Entries will be accepted from today (Monday, July 23, 2012) til midnight of Thursday, July 26, 2012. (Just leave the sentence in the comments)

The Prize(s):
As previously stated, I'm pretty broke, but I'm just so happy to have followers, I feel like I should maybe pay to keep you guys here, no? So there are a couple of options:

1) $10 Amazon OR Barnes and Nobel Gift Card.
2) Query Critique from me.
or
3) First five pages critique.

The Fine Print:

I am currently an un-represented author, so you may think my advice is full of crap. If that's the case, I'd encourage you to pick the $10 gift card. But I do and have attended lots of conferences. I have a fair bit of knowledge in the querying game, as well as the writing game. If you're one of those people who just wants an extra pair of eyes, I'd suggest going with either of the critiques, but it's up to you.

When you're broke, this may be your
main source of caloric intake...
(It's definitely mine)

Happy Monday!

At Long Last: Girls Just Want To Have Fun

Sorry I'm late, there's been a lot of stuff going on. But without further slacking off, here is my blog for the Girls Just Want to have Fun Blog Hop! The rules are your heroine gets interviewed by another female counterpart. I'm supposed to post a picture of them, but I'm opting out of that, sorry. Instead, I'll repost a picture of real life Claire, who my character is named for. Yay!

I'm on the left. She's on the right :)
So today's interview will be done by Sarah, MC from My Sister's Memories. She'll be asking Claire Downs, from After Elizabeth questions.

Sarah: "So you're smoking?"

Claire, who lets out a steady stream: "No, I'm on the patch."

Sarah, uncomfortably: "Are you even old enough--"

Claire shoots a mean look, Sarah stops.

Sarah: "Alright then. So this question is brought to you by Jaycee DeLorenzo. How would you describe your hero?"

Claire, after a moment of shooting daggers through her eyes: "I don't know. Spiderman? Superman? No, no The Power Rangers. Yea. The Power Rangers."

Sarah: "Why?"

Claire: "Fuck if I know. They had different colors, I guess."

Sarah: "Like your hair? It's blue today Do you dye it regularly?"

Claire: "Only when I'm bored."

Sarah: "Alright, next question. What attracts you to a guy?"

Claire, inhaling a long puff: "Do you expect me to like, say I like long walks on the beach, and a guy who brings a fucking puppy home?"

Sarah: "Umm...."

Claire: "Seriously. That's a bullshit question."

Sarah, avoiding confrontation because Claire looks like she'll lunge over the table and strangle her: "Next question! Favorite thing to do--"

Claire, cutting me off: "Is this shit over yet?" She proceeds to die out her cigarette on the table.

Sarah: "I guess it can be. Thanks for your time...."

Claire: "Fuck off."

Yea, I'd say that's a pretty accurate representation of Claire :) What do you think?

Also, we were asked to post a theme-ish song, so I think this one covers Claire pretty well:

Sorry again that it's late, but I hope you enjoyed it! :)

Open Mic Blog Hop!

Okay, hopefully this works. Technology hates me...Also, it was way bright outside, but it was the only place it was quiet...

This is what I'll be reading :)

Airplanes
It’s nearing noon and she’s clutching my hand as though the blood pumping through me is flowing right into her. I feel like life support, I’m keeping her alive, I alone am responsible for her strength, for each step that she’s taking. I am the mama bird waiting to shove my little offspring out into the cruel hard world. I’m making her grow wings and fly on her own.
We spent the last two hours in a car packed so tight that when the doors opened the suitcase fell on my foot. The radio the entire time was loud enough to drown out the screams in our hearts saying “Don’t change this, don’t leave.” And so we sang like we were happy, like we were whole, like we would stay this way forever and the trip we were taking was just an ordinary one. Like she’d be coming home with me in the end.
Now we find ourselves holding hands as the suitcase trails behind her, and I carry her backpack. We give strength to each other the way we had any time the other was weak. We approach the kiosk to check her in. The woman from the airline smiles friendly enough, but she doesn’t understand that I’m about to let go of the last four months of my life. That the girl beside me will be a fiercely independent woman the next time she walks through the terminal. I’m breathing, she’s breathing, the woman behind the counter is breathing. We don’t matter to her, she doesn’t matter to us, but in this moment, we’re all connected. She’s taking my sister’s luggage, taking her from me, and I smile and put my credit card in the machine to pay the $60 fee that she can’t afford because for some reason I always have money and she never does. She thanks me and says she’ll pay me back, and some day down the line, I’m sure she will…but I would rather keep her than my money. I once more ask her is she’s sure she wants to do this. She reaffirms to me that she’s taken an oath and has to leave, it’s out of our hands now (yet hers is still in mine, I don’t want to let go).
We carry the 36lb and 47.2lb bag to security. No sir, there are no flammable items, and yes sir, they’re unlocked. The bags are gone, save the backpack and computer case that she’ll carry on board.
I’m sad, but I find it hard to cry even at funerals. She sets her bags down and embraces me so I can feel her body pressed against mine like we’re merging to be one person. And that’s how it’s been for the last four months; we were one entity, one person. We were “The Smiths” or “The Smith-Heads”. I wasn’t Jennifer, she wasn’t Laura. She says she loves me just loud enough that it plays through my ear, and I can feel the emotion through her arms. My entire being is begging her not to leave me because I’m scared to be alone, because I’m scared of her growing too strong without me, because I’m not sure how to stand on my own without her. None of this I can say out loud, as I’m supposed to give her strength to pretend that I’m fine and so she’ll be fine, so I resolve to hug her until my arms tire.
I’m the little sister, and I am just that, little. Without effort, she lifts all 110 lbs of me, and because I like to make a scene, I wrap my legs around her in a koala like bear hug. And we sing Leaving on a Jet Plane because we don’t know when she’ll be back again. We laugh into each other as she sets me down. I tell her to take care of herself, she says to keep in touch. I can’t stay long enough to wait for her to board the plane or even walk her over to security, I’m two hours late for work, and it will be four by the time I arrive back.
We embrace once more and though we can’t feel it, a razor just crept between us, murdering The Smiths and birthing Laura and Jennifer. We step apart, dazed from the impact, and look at each other for the first time, the other half which had completed us for so long and begin stitching up the hole where the other had been.
Goodbyes are said, and I walk to my car, the car we had used the entire summer. There is vomit on the paneling from a friend’s birthday the previous weekend. On the other side of the car, there are massive scratches that will eventually be buffered out, and pieces that will hopefully be super glued down from her backing my car into a tree. But for right now, these pieces take the place of her for me.
The key has been in the ignition for the 15 minutes it took to get her settled in, and my car jumps gently to life. I look back at the airport and say a prayer under my breath that she’ll be brave in her new life, that she’ll survive the heat and humidity and have an awesome year. As a side note I pray for myself, that I can breathe on my own, that I too will be brave in my life without her.
My foot finds its way off the clutch and I alone head to my destination to lay claim to a place that had once been ours but is now mine.

Okay, thanks for stopping by!

Word Verification and Heat

Okay, okay. Hope and J.A. you guys win. I turned my word verification off. I didn't even know it was on. Sorry.

If you're reading this, and not sure if your own blog has it on or not, I'd check J.A.'s post HERE just to make sure. It turns out there are a lot of us who are out there who hate it. I mean, I knew I hated it. Mainly because I was always afraid of mixing a letter up since they're all gross and diagonal, and...well...gross. I was unaware I was putting you guys through the torture.

In unrelated news, it's shorts weather where I'm at in Maine. Which sucks because all of the snow on the mountain is melting.

During this run, my partner in crime and I had to hike, for a long, long time to get to snow. ..
Riding has become an epic game of, AVOID-THAT-HUGE-DIRT-PATCH:

Partner In Crime
But...because the snow is melting, I've developed some bravery. I've been able to ollie over THAT-HUGE-DIRT-PATCH, I've landed more and more 180's off jumps, AND managed to do a grab (without slicing my hand off!). Plus, on a daily basis I've been riding the half pipe, which I've affectionately dubbed; The Slush Pipe.

Dropping into the Slush Pipe..I should be more forward than I am...shh...

The good news is, I haven't bashed in my knees recently. I haven't obtained another concussion (notice, my helmet is on. Thanks, Patrick!). The season is starting to come to a close.

Do you know what that means?

Oh yes. It's almost time to break this bad boy out:
Think I can add a side car for Baxter? :)

AWP Follow Up

I am now sitting in a panel titled, 'Keeping Your Debut Alive'. I have registered for the conference by sheer luck. My sister and I stumbled upon a hostle. I was paid today from both jobs. This morning in my one strap messenger bag I found old buisness cards!

And the best part of all of this?

I have TONS to blog about this month because I'm learning so much!

Also, please keep my car in your thoughts. He may still get towed...

Valentine's Kisses

If you read the quick post from yesterday...

Is going down. It's a blog hop, so make sure to check out the other entries through Hope and Cassie!

Anyways, enough rambling. Here's my smoochy scene from My Sister's Memories:

“So, am I still grounded?” Allie asks after dinner.
“Yes,” I answer without hesitation. It takes me a second to realize that she’s remembered this on her own. “I said it was for a week.” I’m then grateful that she had the decency to start this after Jordan and Melanie left.
“That’s stupid, why aren’t you grounded?” she asks.
“Why is that stupid?”
“Because, you might get expelled. You got sent to detention. And yet, I’m grounded, while you get to run around and do whatever you want,” she says.
“I’m the adult, Allie.”
“Only by default,” she says and I can’t help but to laugh.
“Fine,” I tell her, “if I were to be grounded, what would my punishment be?”
She sits for a second trying to decide whether or not I’m being serious. When she figures out that I am, she smiles. “Alright, young lady, this time you get off with a warning, next time I won’t be so lenient,” she tells me with a hand on her hip, while the other points at me.
I laugh again, “Thanks Mama Allie.”
“So, what’s my punishment tonight?” As if on cue, Alyssa, the goalie from the soccer team knocks on the door and Allie is sent off into the night.
“Be home by nine, please,” I call after her.
“Yea, yea,” she says waving me off.
Before I’m able to close the door, I see Jordan walking up. “Night, Allie,” he greets.
I open my door a little wider, “Hey.”
“Is that an invite?” he asks.
“Do you want it to be?”
“I feel like you may need to rehearse what you’re going to say at your meeting tomorrow,” he pauses, “and I brought some beer.”
“That sounds responsible,” I joke.
He tucks the six pack behind is back, “Bad idea?”
“Naw, I’ll have one. I just wanted to point out that it may not be responsible.”
“You’re supposed to be young and free, right?” he winks at me and sets the beer on the counter.
I hear my phone ring and dive onto the couch to answer it, “Hey.”
“Hey, are you okay?” Cassie asks. “You weren’t in class today. Did something happen with Allie?”
I laugh louder than I mean to, “No. Actually…I umm….got sent to detention.”
“No you didn’t!” she chuckles. “What the hell for?”
“I umm….attacked a kid in Allie’s class,” I say while looking at Jordan.
She laughs so hard I have to move the phone away from my ear, “That is the best thing I’ve heard all day. Thank you for that. What are you up to tonight?”
From the sound in her voice I think she’s going to invite me out, and I imagine that it’d be nice since I’ve only been hanging out with Allie and Jordan. “Jordan’s here.”
“Ohhh, the guy from last night?” she asks.
“Yea, that one.”
“He’s cute. I’d do him,” she says. When I don’t respond she asks, “Was that the wrong thing to say?”
I chuckle, “No, just awkward. But we’ll talk later, okay?”
“Yea, I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Night.” I tell her. When I end the call I turn to Jordan, “Oh, also, remind me to thank your sister for setting up people to take Allie out,” I say.
“I’ll tell her you said so. I think she’s pretty excited about all of it.”
“She seems pretty optimistic about the situation,” I say.
He shrugs, “I think her attitude is the whole beggars can’t be choosers.”
I smile. “Wanna hear a funny story?”
“Of course,” he says.
“Allie tried to ground me tonight,” I tell him.
“You’re shitting me, right?” he laughs.
I shake my head, “She thinks it’s not fair that she’s grounded, meanwhile I’m allowed to attack people at school and get away with it.”
He takes a step closer to me and suddenly the atmosphere has shifted. When he speaks, his voice is gentle and more serious that I’d ever heard it, “You could use some…”
I take a tiny step toward him, “Sexual healing?”
He smiles but doesn’t laugh, which only makes me more anxious, “I was going to say guidance, but if you want to take things in that direction.”
I don’t tell him out loud that I want to. Instead, I look at the floor pattern in the apartment.
“Sarah?” he asks. When I look up he’s right in front of me, so close I can smell the soap on his skin. My heart leaps into every part of my body. As if Hollywood were producing my life, a stray strand of hair falls across my cheek. He leans over as he tucks it behind my ear for me. His fingers trail my jaw line and my entire face flushes. Every portion of me is vibrating. His fingers are still resting on my face.
“Yea?” I whisper, still unable to make eye contact.
I wait, adhering to my mother’s advice. Every inch of me shakes with anticipation. I can’t even imagine what his lips would feel like. My teeth bite against the corner of my lip for just a second.
He leans closer to me, and in one movement I stop breathing. His fingers tip my chin in his direction and his lips are on mine.
If it were possible for a body to dissolve, I’d be a puddle on the floor.

Why Do You Blog?

Holy February! I cannot believe it's February already. Did January even ever start?? Anyways..

J.A. Bennett had an awesome post about how Blogging is an Art, and Cassie Mae recently had a blog interview that asked, What makes you follow someone when you browse through blogs? Just recently, I met my critique partner in real life (the one that survived THIS), and she was phenomenal. We discussed writing, and at some point she asked, "Why do you keep a blog?"

Here's why I keep a writing blog:

*To share my experiences with people
I've made a lot of dumb mistakes (See: calling Nathan Bransford and asking what a query letter was). I post about my experiences, the awkward, "OMG WHAT DID I JUST DO?!?!?!" moments, so that maybe you won't have to go through them. (It's also why I made the Writerly Advice column). I write about how hard it is to get rejected, and hopefully at some point, I'll be able to post the awesome post that says, 'HEY, HEY, BUY MY BOOK!' Speaking of buying a book...

*Creating a fanbase
Followers may not seem like much of a fan base, but when NinjaGirl or Peggy Eddleman announced they'd landed agents, I peed in my pants a little for them. I can't wait til they get published! It may take some time to save up money, but you'd better believe I'll buy their stuff. I'd like to think that my wonderful followers would feel the same way with me :)

*It's fun
I enjoy nothing more than to find a really awkward picture of myself and somehow fit it into the blog. Or, I like to post about Baxter and make it writing related, or snowboarding. Plus, on days where I don't feel like writing, it makes me feel somewhat accomplished

Those are the main reasons that I blog. Mostly for me, partly for you. But I hope we both get something out of it :)

Blog Comments

Before I start the blog, I'd just like to state that my blog has officially been up for a year. So, thank you guys for coming by, leaving comments, and helping me learn and grow as a writer. Okay, enough mushy.

Short one today.

Back in March, Rebecca Rasmussen had a guest blog about Literary Citizenship. Now, almost a year later, I think about this post a lot. It shared a lot of, "If you want to have the writing community excel, push it along" types of advice. Step one, was to write charming notes to writers.

So let's think about this. I'm assuming most of you who drop into the blog, have your own blogs, no? What does this mean? This means, I take that citizenship to another step, it's called being blog friendly. If someone comments on my blog, I try to return the favor.

Why?

Because:
*I love comments. I feel other writers feel the same.
*It helps establish a connection to the people commenting.
*It may help develop friendships. There are a few people who comment pretty regularly, and I look forward to what they have to say (thanks again!)
*It's kind of like being a pen-pal. You gotta write back, you know?

Basically, I'm not saying you have to comment back. I'm just saying it's a nice thing to do, and probably makes other people happy, too. Plus--if you actually go through and read the blog post, most of the time, there is something worthwhile to read.

:)

On Blogging

As you write, a lot of people tell you that the best thing you can do is read, read, read. Why? Because you get in tune with what's selling, what you like in other people's work, sentence structures, what carries a novel, etc.

But blogs aren't really all that different. When I started The Submission Process last year, I kind of just....blogged. Then...I started learning.

I followed agent and editor blogs. I started looking around at what else was out there, and I found Books of Adam. (If you haven't read his blog, you should, it's hilarious.) Just one read, and he made a follower out of me. Why? Because it's down to earth, it's real, and it's spit your milk out funny.

I also started thinking...what else drew me in?

Right....There were stories, and yet there were pictures. It wasn't just pages of endless text. I found myself paying more attention to blogs I followed; the ones with a lot of text, I'd read the first few sentences and then stop. Mainly because I was bored and overwhelmed. The ones that had pictures, I'd actually read. Thus, I started posting pictures, too. Like this one:

Because every step you take, is a step in the right direction :)
Climb those mountains!

Plus, pictures make it personal, you know?

I also found that the more I spanned and commented on blogs, the more people commented on mine. The more I put my posts on twitter, the more people stumbled across me.

So my advice of the day? Read other people's blogs. Figure out what you like about them, and implement it on your blog.

Yay! Another Blog Award!

Okay...so for those of you who only know me virtually, not only am I an anxious person (see previous blog, float around through other posts...), I'm also really excitable.

Every time I get a new follower, I literally squeal and possibly jump up and down. It usually looks something like this:

God, these are terrifying pictures. I hope I didn't just scare you away...
So imagine when I get a manuscript request, or heck, even a free cookie. It's dangerous to be within a ten mile radius of my flapping arms.

Yesterday, I found that the lovely writer, Laura Barnes, gave me a blog award!!! Which resulted in the usual tackling of Baxter (who was resting peacefully beside me), and a giddy squeal (then I had to explain to my roommate who is like 60, possibly 70 years old what a blog award was).

So here's the award, and it's linked back to Ms. Barnes' blog:

If you're not aware  of how blog awards work, it's like this:
*You get one (Yay!). You can just take it, put up the pretty picture on your blog and do nothing else. That's up to you.
*You link the award back to the giver.
*You pick people to give it to.

She picked ten, so I'll do the same (in no specific order):

90% of these blogs are writing related. One I know in person, and I enjoy her blog because it's down to earth. Plus, I know her in real life, so that's fun, too :) Either way, these are the common blogs I try to pop in on at least once-twice a week...I hope you guys enjoy them, too.

*Once you've selected the fine bloggers, leave a comment on their blog and let them share in the giddy-ness. (I hope you guys get giddy, too)
*Some of the other blog awards have a series of questions so you can get to know the writer a little bit better...This one didn't come with any (yay!)...

But here are some fun facts about me anyway:

~I have the best dog in the world.
~I don't like to say that I own him, we're more like friends.
~I'm really caffeine intolerant, and it usually ends in a panic attack. But, after working at a coffee shop for a few months, I'm now also dependent.
~I'm a fast writer. I think. I'm not sure...people tell me I am. (If you go through my old posts, I have some tips on what I've dubbed speed writing.)
~I like cookies. A lot. Like...I eat a million a day.
~I like cold weather and snow..which works out since I just moved back to Maine.
~I really like Owl City's new album. Mainly because he has a song that says, "Reality is a lovely place, but I wouldn't want to live there"
~I hate TV
~I love music
~My car is a stick shift
~In the last month, I've been in two ditches (one ended up having to get towed out, the other pushed out)

That's all for now :)

Blog Award, And Other Fun Things!

It was awhile ago....It seems actually to be July to be exact...But the lovely J.A. Bennett gave me the Blog On Fire Award, and I haven't properly taken the time to redistribute, nor thank. So, Ms. Bennett, thank you for the award.

I honestly don't know how these things work....but it seems most people have posted the picture of the award or what not...so I guess I'll do that:

And then I hear that you're supposed to answer some random questions? I'm not sure, but it kinda seemed like fun and I don't have anything else to say today....so here I go:

1. Are you a HOT rutabaga? Describe yourself in two words:
Pet friendly? I don't know....I don't really have anything to say here, but I do love pets...

2. When was the last time you ate lion meat?
Umm....In a past life probably. But I'm not so sure sea turtles are into that kind of thing...I know they eat weird crap...but lion meat? Really? Maybe not in a past life....

3. Upload a heartwarming picture that makes you smile.

This was in 2007...my sisters, all of them and I took a trip in Michigan to the other side of the state. It was amazing. I love all of them.

4. What songs would be playing when you go back in time to beat the crap out of someone, and who, may I ask, would be this someone unfortunate enough to be in your time traveling dimensional line?
Probably something by Rise Against, or Silverstein. They're pretty angry. Or something like..really silly. If you've ever seen that part in Dirty Work, the G SEVEEEENNNNN! Dude, you just pushed G8 "If you like pina coloadas, and getting caught in the rain". Yea...I could see that happening to me.

5. Name one habit you want to change in yourself because it makes people plot your demise.
I have a bit of a temper.....(Shh...don't tell anyone)

6. How many goats, stacked atop one another like Yertle's Turtles, would it take to reach the moon?
I'd say fourteen. But I'd prefer that before we tested this theory...we asked the goats for their permission.

8. Where da muffin top at?
Yea...no. I don't even get this one..

9. Do you have nicknames?
I have a million of them. The one I hear the most frequently is Knee-Cap. Thank you, Elizabeth.

10. What the fudge were you thinking as you were doing this?
That Hancock is playing in the background, and Will Smith is smokin hot? A little bit of that, and he (Hancock) has some clear anger problems...I like him.

And now I hear this is the fun part. Getting to tag people. I think Ms. Bennett chose four people, so I will, too:

1) Ms. Marilyn Almodóvar  @ Writing on the Sunny Side of the Street

2) Ms. Peggy Eddleman @ Will Write For Cookies

3) Ninja Girl @ Ninja Girl Reads

4) Ms. Becky Wallace @ What's Your Thought On That?

So there you have it. My first blog award.

Thanks again :) Sorry it took me so long to respond!

Turning Titles Into Poetry

If you don't follow Janet Reid's blog, you should. Mainly, because she has THIS CONTEST going on until tomorrow. This is/was my submission:

The Disenchanting Truth

The Truth About Forever
Is that Bright And Shiny Morning(s)
Are for the Lucky One(s).

At Second Glance,
The Little Prince won't come
To The Rescue,
Which means She's Come Undone.

The Girl Who Played With Fire,
Was found Running With Scissors,
Saying, "Someday My Prince Will Come,"
Unaware of The Slow Vanishing.

She'd Fallen
And become a Loose Girl
Who live in The Glass Castle
Full of Disenchantments and Stolen Innocence.

She was A Woman Betrayed.
She wasn't Lucky.

Counting The Hours,
She learned
Certain Girls aren't Those Who Save Us.

And That's How I Live Now.

Good luck to all those who enter!
